Neal Alger and Heitor Garcia Brazilian DuoThe Riverbend Friday Night Concert Series kicks off on February 20th with doors opening at 6, concert at 6:30 in the Riverside Presbyterian Church sanctuary.  Suggested donation $20 per person and curated/emceed by Kara Kesselring.  Hop off the Metra after work, grab a drink at Vinette, Riverside's newest train station wine shop, make a reservation at one of downtown Riverside's neighborhood restaurants, or bring the whole family to a hot night of Brazilian Jazz.  

Feb 20th Concert:  NEAL ALGER & HEITOR GARCIA BRAZILIAN DUO

Lauded as "one of the most sensitive and creative guitarists in a city filled with them" (Howard Reich, Chicago Tribune) and described as “monstrously talented” by Christopher Loudon (Jazz Times magazine), guitarist Neal Alger has performed jazz, R&B/Soul, classic rock/pop, and classical music and has toured internationally.  Additionally, Brazilian music is a huge passion for Alger and he has performed both as a sideman and as a leader in Brazilian music-oriented projects in Chicago in the past 15 years.  

Heitor Garcia is a drummer and percussionist who has more than 30 years of music experience including performing, arranging, recording, and teaching. Since his arrival to Chicago from Brazil in 1991, he has been an active performer, participating in a large number of events in the US and abroad and has performed with a number of world renowned artists such as The Detroit Symphony Orchestra, Joe Vasconcelo’s, Grazyna Auguscik, Warsaw Symphony Orchestra Strings, João Donato Trio, Rogerio Souza, and Paulinho Garcia.

Strawberry Ice Cream Social:  July 15, 6:00 - 8:00 pm on the church lawn

Youth Mission Trip:  July 19-24 in partnership with First Presbyterian Church of La Grange 

Messiah Concert:  December 13, 4:00 pm.

Christmas-eve Service: December 24th, 4:00 pm.  

Church Activities:  

  • Our children’s choir, the Scottswood Singers, rehearses Wednesdays from 4:14 - 5:15 pm September-May with monthly performances in worship.  
  • Our adult choir rehearses on Wednesdays 7:00 - 8:00 pm, Labor Day through Pentecost.  
  • Confirmation, typically for students in the 8th grade (7th or 9th is fine too) begins in September of each year with Confirmation Sunday on Pentecost (May or June). 
  • Summer Camps:  Weekly day-camp for preschool and elementary aged students during 8 weeks of summer break.  
  • Membership classes are 6 weeks at a time, usually in the spring and fall. 
  • Worship services at Cantata and Caledonia assisted living facilities are coordinated monthly Saturdays by our Deacons, September through May.

  • Scouting Troop 24 website contains information on their campouts, pinewood derby, pancake breakfast (March 7), and service projects.
